Diary Post- Editing

We started to edit our film the other day and we used the iMac at school so that we could use iMovie. Me and Anna began to pick apart the footage we had and choose the most important bits as we wanted to get them into the film and then we could work around those scenes. The most important parts for us was, Anna falling over which will lead into the flashback (that we are yet to film) and the ending with the car. We used this session to work with iMovie and see what we could use in our film included transitions, sound effects and inter titles. This was a great opportunity to begin to figure out how to edit a film together as for some of us, it was our first time. During this session we also got our institution's logo (TriStar) to put at the beginning of our film, this will make it more like a real film.

Diary- Filming!

On Sunday we went out filming for our opening 2 minutes. We went to Nonsuch Park instead of Richmond Park because it was easier to access and also we knew that area better I found a really good area with lots of trees, dirt paths and leaves, this is what we envisioned for our setting. Although the weather wasn't what we planned as we wanted a cloudy day, but it was quite sunny, however we could edit this in the film.

 For costume, Anna wore a hoodie, leggings and converse which is what we planned, she also put mud on her face and clothes and leaves in her hair which set the scene.  Ellenia and I filmed Anna running through the forest, we both filmed on our phones which has a HD feature. We tried to get lots of different angles, on the ground, behind trees and still wide shots. From my preliminary task I learnt that I had to get a lot of footage so that we wouldn't be stuck in the editing room with not enough footage, I believe we got a very good and wide range of shots. 

We spent the majority of the day in the forest but we also went to a quiet road to film the car scenes. We found a really quiet, wide road which was great for filming as it wasn't dangerous and we could film without disruptions from other drivers or people. In this location, there were trees at the side so it was good to get shots from behind trees to vary our shots. 

Average Audience Member

We decided that for our average audience member will be male aged between 15 and 26. This will be because of the action part of the film and stereotypically, young males like action. 

Our audience member's interests could include action films, video games and socialising with his friends. The audience member may also like mystery and crime dramas so this film was also appeal to him. 

This age group has a lot of disposable income therefore they will be more likely to go to the cinema, especially with their friends. 

We are aiming this more at young adults because it won't be a stereotypical family film so they will be more likely to go and see it with their friends:

Practice Intertitles for our film

These are our practice inter titles for our film, we have used red and white because they will be visible over the action and also, red ties in with out thriller genre, connoting to blood. 

We will change the actors names when we know what actors we want for our film and we will use titles similar to these in our animatic and real 2 minute opening. 

The text is in the bottom corner because we it over the action, so we don't want to distract the audience away from the action.

Animatic Storyboard with Intertitles

 We made this animatic storyboard to help us to see what our film was going to be set out like. We drew pictures on whiteboards of our shots and then edited them together using iMovie, whilst editing we decided to add our inter titles on top as well as some sound effects and music. I think this will help us when we actually go to film our opening 2 minutes because we know exactly what we want it to look like.

Intertitles Order

I have been looking into the order of intertitles for films and I tried to use this for my intertitles video task, so that we can replicate a opening two minutes of a film accurately. I searched what the order is and I also looked at some example G321 Media coursework from other years and saw how they used intertitles in their work. This could help us when we are editing our film so we can be as close to a real film opening as possible.

I found this video about the sample order of opening credits in a film and I will use this whilst editing to get the order correct.

Script

We have decided that we aren't going to have any dialogue in our opening 2 minutes of our film and this is because we don't want to reveal too much to the audience and leave the audience wonder what they think is happening or what they think will happen next. This film will have an element of mystery and crime solving to it and so we don't want the audience to know too much just in the first two minutes, an ambiguous beginning will be good.

Instead of a script we will have diegetic sound of heavy breathing, crying and screaming from the main character and maybe a chuckle from the side character of the 'villain' in the flashback scene. We will also have diegetic sounds of running and maybe birds tweeting in the forest. We will decide what sounds the characters will make when we are filming, as we will be in the moment and it will make it more real and not forced.
